My photography during the Pandemic

It’s been a year of hanging out at home and not taking many photography trips or shots. I still managed my foliage trip up the Kangamangus in New Hampshire and one or two smaller ones. Including Nubble light house for the Christmas lighting. I was hoping to get out more and get do more photography, but the pandemic kinda put a lot of peoples plans on hold including mine. I like everyone else looks forward to the end of this and everyone returning to the things that make them happy and inspired. From time to time I’ll try and get out when appropriate and while maintaining healthy practices while doing so. Hope everyone stays safe and healthy through this and look forward to seeing people out and about again soon.

Adobe Lightroom or Capture One

What Photo editing software do you use? I’m an Adobe Lightroom user I’ve used it for quite some time. I use it in concert with Adobe Photoshop. I haven’t used Capture One but have seen some videos of people who have and they like it better than Lightroom. Both do have a subscription option if you don’t want to buy them outright. Adobe’s creative cloud solution has many different pricing options depending on what programs you want to use. For photographers you can pay 9.99 a month for Photoshop and lightroom. Capture one has a couple of options as well, you can purchase a 20 dollar a month version for all cameras. There is also a 9.99 version if you own a Fujifilm, Sony or Nikon camera. I’ll leave a link to both websites if you are interested in looking into them. I believe Capture one is offering one month free trial, but don’t know how long this will be an option.

Canon 5D Mark IV

My Current Camera is the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, it’s the camera I’ve been using for the past 6 months. I enjoy using it and learning about it’s capabilities. The camera I was using before this was a Canon Rebel T5. The T5 was a crop sensor at 18 Megapixels. The 5 is a 30.4 Megapixel full frame camera with plenty of features. It has 2 card slots one CF and one SD and has the EF Lens mount. The 5D does do 4K video but I haven’t tried that yet. Shoots RAW and JPEG formats simultaneously. Does have a on the back which is a touchscreen, but does not pop out. The CF card slot does not support CFast Cards. DIGIC 6+ Image Processors is install on this camera, I also bought a 24 to 100 mm L lens with this camera, that I really enjoy using.

Over all I have enjoyed the experience with the 5D Mark 4 and this is a camera I expect to use for a long time and really get to know. I know a lot of photographers have been using and reviewing mirror-less cameras the Canon R5 & R6 I have been seeing a lot of reviews on. At some point I may look at the mirror-less cameras but not yet. I don’t want to have to buy all new lenses on top of a new camera. I have purchased many lenses for may canon Rebel and those work fine on the 5D, so I didn’t have to purchase any new glass if I didn’t want to. At some point as possibly a second camera I may pick up a mirror-less, but want to see how the mirror-less option unfolds a little first.

Flower Photography

There are many kinds of photography, I like taking photos flowers it is one of the many forms of photography I enjoy. Finding flowers in bloom and capturing them is enjoyable. We are coming up on fall here in New England and it will be time for foliage photography. I enjoy late spring to mid fall for all the colors of flowers and foliage. It gets me out from behind a desk where I’ve spend all of late fall through mid spring. When I can find a subject like this one it’s always puts a smile on my face.

Fall Foliage 2020

Fall Foliage season in New England is in a little over a month. I will take a day in early October and head a couple of hours north into the White Mountain area of New Hampshire and shoot the foliage along the Kancamagus highway that starts in Lincoln New Hampshire or ends depending on what side you start from. I look forward to posting photos from this trip here in my website.

SUNFLOWER FESTIVAL

Today I went to the Coppal House Farm in Lee New Hampshire. The farm held a sunflower festival this week and I went to get some photos of the sunflowers. I posted some of the sunflower phot0s in the Landscape section of my website. I enjoyed the day out in the nice weather among the sunflowers. I hope you take a look and enjoy the sunflower photos.

Lighthouses

On Monday I took a trip to South Portland and to some photos of a lighthouse. It got me thinking of how many lighthouse photos I've taken over the years. So I started a gallery of them to show all the lighthouses I've photographed over the years. Hope you all enjoy them.

Canon 50mm Lens

The Canon 50mm Lens is a wonderful lens for taking landscapes. I used this lens to take the panorama photo in the landscape section of my photos. It's of the mountain range viewed from the Kangamangus highway. It's a lens I plan on using more and for various different kinds of photographs.
